Vladivostok, January 22, 2020. – Vladivostok International Airport summed up its activities for 2019. For the first time in the airport’s history, the passenger flow exceeded 3 million passengers. Transfer flow grew by 27%.

In 2019, the main air gateway in the east of Russia – Vladivostok airport – handled 3 mln 80 thousand passengers, which is 17% higher than in 2018. In 2019, the number of Russian and foreign passengers using the Vladivostok airport as a transit airport increased by 27%. Passenger flow in the Russian domestic lines amounted to 1 mln 630 thousand passengers (+10%). The destinations which accounted for the highest increase of the airport passenger flow in 2019 were Moscow, Novosibirsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

International passenger flow was equal to 1 mln 450 thousand people (+26%). The flights from Vladivostok to Seoul, Daegu and Tokyo contributed most to the increased international passenger flow, with the highest growth of passenger flow on the international routes being promoted by the flights from Vladivostok to the Republic of Korea which accounted for almost a half of the total growth of passenger flow at the Vladivostok airport for 2019. The passenger flow on the South Korean routes remains on the rise showing growth by 31% as compared to last year.

Another remarkable thing is the dynamics of the Japanese routes: the passenger flow to Japanese destinations rose by 87% against that of last year. Flights to the Japanese cities were made up to three times a day. The passenger flow on Chinese routes which are the most numerous is also growing. It is especially noteworthy that in 2019 Chengdu Airlines chose Vladivostok as the first international destination for flights of the airplane of new type ARJ21 designed in China.

Last year, the new partners of the airline became Beijing Capital, Juneyao Airlines and Chengdu Airlines. The international route network of the airport was supplemented with new destinations, such as Xian (Beijing Capital Airlines), Taipei (S7 Airlines), Dubai (Azur air), while domestically S7 Airlines opened regular direct flights to Krasnoyarsk. The greatest contribution to the airport development in 2019 among foreign airlines was made by South Korean airline Eastar Jet, among domestic air carriers – S7 Airlines.

In 2019, the Vladivostok airport continued to make strenuous efforts for development of route network: five fam tours were conducted for representatives of airlines and tour agencies from the East Asia countries. Also, in order to increase passenger flow on the Chinese routes, the first-ever marketing campaign aimed at promotion of Vladivostok as a tourist destination was conducted on online platforms.

During 2019, the airport introduced and improved a number of services offered to passengers. The updated business lounge Lagoon opened its doors for the passengers of domestic airlines. Business lounge was updated for improvement of quality of the provided services and creation of more comfortable conditions for passengers. Also, the Duty Free shop in the air harbour of Primorye was reconstructed and expanded, its design and product range were updated, the format of provided services was improved, and some new commercial and service facilities providing a wide range of services to passengers and visitors of the airport were opened.

In February 2019, Vladivostok International Airport won the 5th National award “Air Gates of Russia” and came a good second best in the nomination “Best Airport-2018” (in the category “International Airport”, up to 4 mln passengers per year), in addition to winning in the special nomination “Best Economic Project of Regional Development (for contribution to the economic development of the region)”. In September 2019, Vladivostok International Airport successfully fulfilled the program of passenger and aircraft handling for participants and guests of the V Eastern Economic Forum. During the period from September 03 till September 07, total passenger flow equaled to almost 52 thousand people, which was 11% higher against the same period in 2018.

In current year, the Vladivostok airport is planning to open new destinations and to continue the development of cooperation with new air carriers. The Chinese and Japanese destinations remain its priority. Also, it is planned to work on promotion of transfer carriage via the air harbour of Primorye.

In 2020, the airport team will continue to implement the airline strategy aimed at the improvement of level of passenger handling and development of non-aviation types of activities, introduction of new services and optimization of passenger handling technologies.
