Vladivostok, February 28, 2020. – Vladivostok International Airport reports the launch of direct regular flight to Tokyo (Narita). The flights on this route will be operated by the Vladivostok-first Japanese air carrier Japan Airlines (JAL).

Japan Airlines (JAL) company launched the direct flight between Vladivostok and Tokyo (Narita) providing air travelers with a comfortable change for any destination in Japan and Asia. The capital of the Russian Far East has become the second city for the Japanese air carrier to start its operations. Historically, the airline for over five decades maintained air traffic between Tokyo and Moscow.

The air carrier plans to operate flights to Tokyo by Boeing 737-800 three times a week. On Wednesdays and Fridays the flight will depart from Vladivostok at 04:15 p.m., arrive at 02:55 p.m. On Sundays, the flight will depart from Vladivostok at 03:35 p.m., arrive at 02:05 p.m. However, already after March 29 the summer schedule will contain the daily flight to the capital of Japan. Residents and visitors of Vladivostok will be able to get to Tokyo by direct flight for 2 hours 15 minutes.

The first flight of the new airline Japan Airlines was given a red carpet welcome in the air harbour of Primorye.
Media representatives, aviation photographers (spotters) and bloggers caught on their photo and video cameras the moment when the aircraft wearing a bright livery touched the land of Primorye.

In the airport terminal, the official ceremony and press conference with the participation of the representatives of the Government of Primorsky region, top managers of the airline and Vladivostok International Airport took place. The first passengers who arrived to Vladivostok were greeted with “bread and salt” according to an old Russian tradition, and all passengers departing from Vladivostok to Tokyo were given promotional gifts from the representatives of tourist information centre and the airline.

Andrey Vinichenko, interim Director General of Vladivostok International Airport:

- Launching of the flight of JAL, which is one of the world’s leading air carriers, is an important event for Vladivostok airport.  The national air carrier of Japan will open Vladivostok for the Japanese as a place with interesting culture, history and sights. On the other hand, the residents of Primorye will have more opportunities to see the wonderful world of Japan. JAL offers an extensive route network, so Tokyo can become a transfer point for the travelers from Vladivostok willing to visit the USA, Canada, Australia or Southeast Asian Countries. I have no doubts that start of flights by Japan Airlines will offer new opportunities to the regions and countries as a whole.

It is worth reminding that Japan is one of the most popular destinations among the residents of Primorsky region. According to the results of 2019, the passenger flow on Japanese routes has increased by 87% as compared to last year. Vladivostok has established twin-city relations with Niigata, Hakodate, Akita and entered into Friendship and Joint Development Agreements between the administrations of Vladivostok city, Sakaiminato and Tottori.
