Autumnal spotting sessions held in Vladivostok airport
The airport of Vladivostok organized an event for all aviation enthusiasts in the first days of October – aircraft spotting and plein air. The spotting event was held in two sessions on October 04 and October 05.
The event was attended by some 100 people – experienced and beginning photographers, bloggers, journalists and artists. Aviation photography enthusiasts could take pictures of taking off, landing and taxiing of aircrafts of JSC “VIA”’s partner airlines as well as the process of ground services. A special plan and optimal route for photographers was developed to ensure safety and high-level performance.
The first day was allocated for professional photographers. During ten hours, representatives of photography communities from Primorye, Magadan and Khabarovsk were watching “iron birds” from various points and photographing them at different angles and in different styles. Spotters succeeded in shooting some unique images. They also did some creative photo art work by taking pictures of aircraft models against the background of real aircraft.
Beginning photographers and artists gathered on the airport apron to take photos and make paintings of aircraft on October 05. Despite harsh weather, the overall atmosphere was contributing to communication with interesting people and creative activities. Many photographers were so close to the runway and saw aircrafts at so close distance for the first time ever.
Weather became a surprise for artists. In the morning, they arranged their easels on the apron but had to move into the terminal because of rain. Thus, plein air was continued inside the waiting area for domestic flights where artists pointed out at an excellent view overlooking the apron from the stained glass windows of the building.
- Incompatible things come into contact at airport plein air – dynamics and statics, says Olesya Mitsai, Public Relations Manager of JSC “VIA”. – An airport is a place of continuous motion. Time can stop here only for a second and new pictures incessantly replace preceding ones. The art of painting “freezes” in time. It is an artist’s hand that can stop this unending process of change showing on his canvas all beauty and force of “iron birds” in the sky or hurrying passengers.
This project is ongoing and a contest for the best piece of art work will be launched soon. The originals of paintings will be displayed in the exhibition zone of the passenger terminal where airport visitors will be able to vote for the picture they liked. Voting will also be organized at the airport’s website vvo.aero.
